AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS LABORATORY (LSA)

The Autonomous Systems Laboratory (LSA) is devoted to leveraging computing and engineering knowledge in the research of autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, both physical (robotics) and virtual (autonomous agents and simulation). In this regard, the laboratory is eminently multidisciplinary and a focal point for the most diverse disciplines of knowledge.

The laboratory has a complete set of programmable robotics resources, including different mobile platforms (boats, drones, land robots), robotic arms, sensors (cameras, IMU, LIDAR), embedded computers, FPGAs, etc.

DUSVs

DUSVs.png

Obstacle detection plays an essential role in unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), as correct detection can cause a course change. At the same time, a failure can lead to vessel breakage or even an accident involving people. In this sense, this research project aims to create a dataset with annotated images to detect marine obstacles, called DUSVs.

INTELLIGENT AUTONOMOUS BOATS

LSA_FotoBarco-1024x768.jpg

This research project aims to study and evaluate machine learning algorithms that can be embedded in unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), more specifically, that improve intelligence, without neglecting the autonomy of robotic boats.

MULTIRAD

MultiRad.jpg

Multicore computing systems are assuming key autonomous functions in safety-critical applications such as electric/hybrid self-driving cars, drones, aircraft, and satellites. The MultiRad project aims to study and evaluate the radiation effects on embedded systems to improve the reliability of forthcoming multicore computing systems running safety-critical artificial intelligence algorithms.
